Our History

In 1973 a clothes line salesman within Hills Australia approached his manager with an idea. Having diversified into the manufacture of antenna arrays and two-way radios, the idea was that Hills Australia would complete their vertical integration of their communications strategy and move into site management business. Being a stretch too far for Hills, Vertel's founder left the maker of the Hills Hoist and set out to create a Australian icon of his own and Communication Site Rentals Pty Ltd (Comsite) was born.

Setting out to secure the highest sites from which to transmit and receive the signals for these new two-way services, Comsite quickly established itself as a highly innovative and technically skilled operator of radio sites and mobile networks. Having undergone a change in name to Vertical Telecoms Pty Ltd (Vertel) in 2000, Vertel has developed into a business with operations in all capital and major cities in Australia, approximately 150 radio towers and sites under ownership or management and has established itself as the largest private operator of land mobile and microwave radio networks in the nation.
